School of Biomedical Engineering and Imaging Sciences, King’s College London

Discover how researchers at King’s College London’s College are building the Hospital of the Future with medical imaging and 3D printing. See how they are creating and using imaging technology such as nuclear medicine and full body scanning to see the unseen inside you.
Our creative and interactive activities will help you learn how radioactivity exists around us and how we can use it to take better images of our bodies. Find out how using full body scans can help us unlock the secrets of the body. Get a closer look at what’s inside your body with 3D printed models of the heart, brain and more!
You can also try your luck at our life sciences pinball machine and myth-busting game, showcased by WeRise as part of our commitment to working with our local communities.
The School of Biomedical Engineering and Medical Sciences is based at King’s College London, where we are engineering better health for the world.

The Centre for Translational Medicine

The Centre for Translational Medicine supports and funds research to bring (or ‘translate’) knowledge and information discovered within research projects into healthcare to provide effective treatments. The centre aims to address major health burdens including health inequalities, by combining clinical and academic expertise and developing future clinical academic leaders.
At Lambeth Country Show, we will demonstrate some of the tools and methods used within research that help to find answers to questions that come up about our health.

Centre of the Call

Centre of the Cell is a unique informal science learning centre, based at the Whitechapel campus of Queen Mary University of London, and the first of its kind to be located within working a biomedical research laboratory.
Explore your ‘Superhero Cells’ and learn all about the tiny cells that make up your body, before designing and building your own ew type of cell with a special job to do in the body. You can also look at samples of real cells under a microscope, and see how cells that come from different places and do different jobs contain various structures.

Queen Mary University of London

Queen Mary University of London is a world-leading research-intensive university with over 32,000 students representing more than 170 nationalities. A member of the prestigious Russell Group, we work across the humanities and social sciences, medicine and dentistry, and science and engineering, with inspirational teaching directly informed by our research. Queen Mary’s history dates back to 1785, with the foundation of the London Hospital Medical College. Our history also encompasses the establishment of the People’s Palace in 1887, which brought accessible education, culture and recreation to the East End of London. We also have roots in Westfield College, one of the first colleges to provide higher education to women.
Join researchers from QMUL at this year’s Lambeth Country Show for fun, hands-on activities exploring some of our latest scientific research – including discovering the properties of space and time through cookie decorating!
