School of Biomedical Engineering and Imaging Sciences; King’s College London
Come find out about the cutting-edge work by King’s College London’s College scientists and researchers in new healthcare technology including, surgical robotics, medical imaging and 3D printing. See how they are creating and using imaging technology such as nuclear medicine and full body scanning to take a look inside the body.
Our creative and interactive activities will help you learn how radioactivity exists around us and how we can use it to take better images of our bodies. Find out how using full body scans can help us unlock the secrets of the body. Get a closer look at what’s inside your body with 3D printed models of the heart, brain and more!
As part of our commitment to working with our local communities, we will also be joined by some of the community partners we have been working with in the local area.
The Centre for Medical Engineering is part of the School of Biomedical Engineering and Medical Sciences, King’s College London, where we are engineering better health for the world.
Faculty of Natural, Mathematical and Engineering Sciences; King’s College London
Explore sustainable and environmentally friendly science with a range of interactive activities from King’s College London! Our researchers are working right here in London on exciting research projects to help make the world a better place. We are helping to make electric vehicles safer, get green energy to your home, and even helping to recycle plastics more efficiently.
Join us to create power from a potato, make the most powerful wind-turbine or explore the science of plastics. You’ll get hands-on exploring science, and even get to take home some of your creations!
You will also have the chance to read about the exciting research our scientists are working on, and explore how you think science should be used to shape our future.
British Society for Immunology
#ExploreVaccines with the British Society for Immunology and discover why vaccines are important for protecting us against serious diseases. Join the British Society for Immunology for interactive, hands-on activities suitable for all ages! Have fun and get creative while learning about how different bacteria and viruses interact with your immune system, how vaccines work and how herd immunity protects your community.
The British Society for Immunology represents scientists who study the immune system and we champion the importance of vaccines and provide reliable, evidence-based information to help everyone make informed decisions about vaccines and their health.

The Genetics Society
Join Mission G3N3 with the Genetics Society. Welcome on-board Star-ship MEND-L flying to Planet G3N3, humanities new home. Our scientists have recently discovered that some environments on G3N3 are more extreme than we first thought. They’ve suggested using gene editing to help everyone on the ship adapt to the new environment quickly and at little extra cost. As part of our crew, you’ll choose which genes to alter to help us best adapt to the environment. Every gene has evolved on Earth but the results are unknown. Join us on our Star-ship and help us create a better future for the first colony of Planet G3N3.
The Genetics Society was founded in 1919 as the world’s first society devoted to the study of the mechanisms of inheritance. The Society is dedicated to promoting research, training, teaching and public engagement in all areas of Genetics.
Activities:
Colourful chromosomes – Visitors will make their own chromosome out of pipe cleaners and colourful beads. The colours of the beads chosen will link to physical attributes of the person making them; eye/hair colour, whether they can curl their tongue or not.
Are you a supertaster? – We will do a PTC test (simple strip of paper that the public will put on their tongues) to check for a genetic mutation. The strip has a taste to it if you have a certain mutation.
National Physical Laboratory
The National Physical Laboratory (NPL) is a world-leading centre of excellence that provides cutting-edge measurement science, engineering and technology to underpin prosperity and quality of life in the UK.
Give Me A Second…
Following the British Science Week theme of Time, how closely can you get a pendulum to swing for one second? Discover how clocks and frequency are linked through our SI Demonstration of the Second.
The Linnean Society
Founded in 1788, the Linnean Society is the oldest learned society dedicated to the science of natural history. Named after the founder of classification, Carl Linnaeus, the Linnean Society has long been involved in investigating and understanding the natural world around us. From our venue in Burlington House, Piccadilly, we run school workshops, family engagement days, tours and all kinds of activities! Join us at the Lambeth Country show to investigate some of our scientific specimens, learn more about what we do and design your own creature!
XR Lambeth
Art Block Printing
Lambeth XR Art Blockers are committed to raising public awareness of the need for urgent action on climate, while we imagine a better world through the co-creation of images of nature and the human spirit.
Unusual and creative block printing activity onto T-shirts, flags, and tote bags, facilitated by experts. Always popular with all ages, learning about nature and our defence of it in a fun and colourful way.
