This year the Lambeth Country Show will be run as This year the Lambeth Country Show will be run as a virtual event once again due to the ongoing impact of the COVID-19 pandemic and uncertainty remaining about when social distancing and other restrictions needed to stop the spread of the virus will be lifted. Councillor Sonia Winifred, Cabinet Member for Equalities and Culture, said: “It is bitterly disappointing not to be able to put on the physical Lambeth Country Show this year, but it is too important of a community event to cancel which is why we’re working hard to develop an exciting virtual programme.” We will be online with a revamped virtual event on Saturday 17 and Sunday 18 July 2021. @lambeth_council and @eventlambeth will work with the borough’s voluntary and community sector, as well as use expertise within the organisation to find ways of making the online version of the event as accessible as possible within our diverse communities. This programme has been coordinated to give an insight into LGBTQ+ history, giving us all the opportunity to understand and challenge discrimination and promote equality, diversity and inclusion. The vibrancy of Lambeth is very well reflected in the diversity of our communities and our commitment to equality. We hope you will join in. @lambeth_council invites you to join us online for @lambeth_council invites you to join us online for Holocaust Memorial Day 2021 📆Sunday 24 January at 3:00pm🕰 The theme this year is ‘Be the light in the darkness.’ 🕯🕯🕯🕯
The times we’re living in show both the very best that humanity is capable of, but also denial, division and disinformation, conspiracy theories, and people who feel the fear of being helpless and insignificant. For the international community, there’s still the need to shine a light where people are persecuted and hold those responsible to account. All of us can be lights in the darkness and tackle prejudice, discrimination and intolerance wherever we encounter them.
Lambeth has a long tradition of honouring Holocaust Memorial Day. This year, the online event will include keynote speaker Professor Peter Lantos BEM - ‘A childhood journey to Belsen’, musical interludes, readings from a local school and words from Cllr Philip Normal, Mayor of Lambeth and Cllr Jack Hopkins, Leader of Lambeth Council. We will share lessons learned from the past and stand in solidarity.
“We will continue to do our bit for as long as we can, secure in the knowledge that others will continue to light a candle long after us.” Gena Turgel MBE, Holocaust survivor (1923-2018)

🐣 Happy New Year 🐣 With restrictions still 🐣 Happy New Year 🐣 With restrictions still in place many community projects are suffering this January. We wanted to take the opportunity to highlight a way to help a farm that is close to our hearts. @vauxhallfarm 🐖🐑🐄🦙🐓 “When you sponsor an animals at Vauxhall City Farm, you don’t just adopt that one animal, you adopt the entire group of animals! Sometimes when you come to the farm, your adopted animal may be out at an event, visiting a school or being used with a visiting school group. So if your animal is off site or busy, you can instead visit all its friends! If you want to ensure a memorable experience for you and a friend, you can purchase an Animal Meet & Greet experience with your adopted animal, or any of the other animals on the farm! If you are looking for an extra special gift. Purchasing an Animal Adoption is a great way in which you can support the farm, our animals and all that we do.
It costs us roughly £50,000 a month to run the entire farm.
People often forget that we’re not just a public access farm. We do so much more than look after our wonderful horses and farm animals! We deliver education programmes, off site events, training and support for young people not currently in education and training, services for those with additional support needs, and so much more! As an independent charity we do not receive any funding from Lambeth Council or the City of London.” ⛓Visit their website:

✨ 🍽 🎄 A callout for Volunteers from @age ✨ 🍽 🎄 A callout for Volunteers from @ageuklambeth “This year has been tough for everyone, which has led to most of us experiencing isolation and separation. For some older
members of the community this is their everyday life! This year Age Concern Lambeth want to spread a little cheer for those who will be spending Christmas alone. They would like your help! After all, wouldn’t it be amazing ending the year helping others? They are looking for
volunteers to simply cook an extra meal for Christmas this year and deliver it to someone in your community that will be
completely on their own for Christmas Day! Whatever you’re cooking on the day, whether it be Turkey with all the trimmings or another meal, why not cook a little extra
and pop a meal into someone who is on their own. They will match you with. someone local (walking distance) and we will supply a seasonal bag of goodies for them and drop off to you in advance. We will even supply the plate! “ 🙏Please get in touch with @ageuklambeth if you would like more information about cooking a Christmas meal for someone in your local community. 📧 : volunteer@ageuklambeth.org

🏆 2020 London in Bloom Winner 🏆 🥇 🥈 🏆 2020 London in Bloom Winner 🏆 🥇 🥈 Sixteen of Lambeth’s parks, gardens, commons, nature reserves and other open spaces have won Gold or Silver Gilt awards in 2020’s London in Bloom – including our first-ever Gold for the whole borough. Judging for London in Bloom’s 2020 awards was very different this year. Instead of Parks’ staff taking judges to visit green spaces big and small, they sent in 22 detailed portfolios – one for each entry– on how our parks, conservation areas, historic gardens and churchyards are being looked after for residents and visitors alike. 🌻This is the first time on record we’ve ever won Gold for the whole borough as well as for individual spaces. Only one other borough won overall Gold. 🌺In total, Lambeth parks and green spaces won eight Golds, up from five in 2019. As well as the Borough Award, new Gold winners are Streatham Rookery and Palace Road Nature Garden, one of three winners in the Small Conservation Area. 🌸Clapham Common was judged Gold in Common of the Year. Brockwell Park won three Golds – in the Heritage category (which includes London icons the National Maritime Museum, Keats House and the Tower of London); as a Large Park and for its Walled Garden.

🌾Brockwell was also awarded Silver Gilt in the Nature Reserves category, helping bring our Silver Gilt tally up from nine to 14 this year. Streatham Common’s nature area also scored Silver Gilt, the same as for Common of the Year. 🍁Streatham’s Rookery was our Gold winner in the Small Parks category, with Silver Gilt for small parks in Hillside Gardens, Slade Gardens, Ufford Street Gardens, and Vauxhall Pleasure Gardens. 🌼Kennington Park also won more than one award, Silver Gilt in both Large Parks (where Ruskin Park won Silver) and for the Flower Garden. #LondonInBloom#LCS #Lambeth #LambethInBloom
@lambeth_council is supporting a new Library of Th @lambeth_council is supporting a new Library of Things delivery service in Brixton as part of their climate action plans. @library.of.things is a social enterprise that started life in Lambeth – West Norwood and Crystal Palace. Over years of providing affordable access to quality tools for people to use at home, for projects and on adventures, we’ve heard lots of requests to bring the Library of Things service to Brixton. Usually because “It’s too far” and “It’s all uphill”. 🚗 🚘 🚙
We’ve recently had support from Lambeth Council through a post-COVID recovery grant, and they’re supporting us to try out our ‘Things on wheels’ delivery service in Brixton as part of their waste prevention and climate action plans. So we’re delighted to let you know we’re coming to Brixton in September. We already think of Brixton as home, with our office in 3Space International House. Why a library of things? 🧑‍🌾👩‍🍳👨‍🎤
Get gardening, cookery, dressmaking tools delivered in Brixton. Lower the environmental impact of DIY projects & more by borrowing from the Library of Things. 🧰⚒🧲 Lambeth is home to many organisations and projects that are taking steps to address climate change and build a more sustainable borough. Learn more about inspiring projects like the Library of Things (see the YouTube video) and share your ideas for collective climate action in Lambeth online before the end of October. September is Lambeth Heritage Festival! With over September is Lambeth Heritage Festival! With over 40 different events, there will be something happening on just about every day of the month. 📆 The big difference is that this year everything will be online. You can chose from virtual walks, archive film screenings, online talks, podcasts, virtual reality films, banner making and drawing workshops, discussion groups, virtual building tours and author interviews – hopefully there should be something for almost every taste. 💻 🖼 🎥 This year’s programme has been created by @LambethArchives working with the Lambeth Local History Forum and with wonderful contributions from Lambeth’s local societies, museums, friends groups, galleries and heritage projects, from right across the borough. All the events are free and take place live in real time. #LCS20 #LambethCountryShow #lambetharchives

We loved seeing this new permanent mural in Brixto We loved seeing this new permanent mural in Brixton. It pays homage to UK hip-hop artist Ty, who sadly passed away in May due to complications related to Covid-19. The work was revealed on August 15th in Valentia Place. Artists Bunny Bread and Jason Caballero of @icreatenotdestroy created the larger than life piece under an arch, It replicates an iconic photographic image by Benji Reid.   The creation was organised by a newly formed charity, @passthetorchty Music Foundation, which has been set up to support independent Black music artists with annual bursaries in Ty’s name. #blackhistory #lambeth #brixton #lambethcountryshow #muralart
