London Youth Games - Team Lambeth
London Youth Games is an annual regional sports competition in which young people from across all 33 London Boroughs compete against each other in over 30 different sports. The Games are open to all young people, aged between 9 and 18 years, who either reside or attend a school in the Borough of Lambeth. LYG is a great platform and competition foundation for talented young athletes, many of whom already compete, or go on to compete at both county and national levels. Furthermore, the Games bring huge exposure at a local and regional level. Many of our successful Olympians including Mo Farah, Bradley Wiggins, Deena Asher-Smith and David Weir, have all competed in the London Youth Games for their respective Boroughs. LYG have been inspiring young Londoners to find their best for more than 40 years. It doesn’t matter if you’re competing, volunteering, or trying out a new sport, there’s a place for you and your borough at London Youth Games. Sports and Physical Activity Team
The Sports and Physical Activity Team not only looks to develop community programmes for the wider community, but we offer advice and guidance towards operational standards. To support this process, we work with several internal, external and pan London training providers, such as Sport England, London Sport and our voluntary support agency, Integrate. Outdoor Activity in Lambeth Parks
We recognise that Sports clubs, community organisations and physical activity providers play a vital role in the delivery of physical activity for residents to improve health and wellbeing. To show residents that the organisations are well run and operate in a safe environment to deliver sport and physical activity, Lambeth issue Outdoor Activity Licences to approved providers. Licences can be obtained at https://beta.lambeth.gov.uk/parks-sports-and-leisure The process involved in the approval of the providers licence helps to regulate physical training in our parks and ensures residents receive high quality and safe activities from qualified and insured trainers. Here is a small selection of providers who are approved and licenced. Make sure your trainer is licenced! |
Tennis
Coaching licences We have recently reviewed the Lambeth Tennis Network licensing scheme in liaison with the LTA. The review concluded that the existing scheme is overly complicated and therefore as part of our new licensing scheme one of the things we are seeking to do is to simplify arrangements and make them more transparent. The changes to the scheme will ensure high quality coaching will take place across our courts within the borough. https://www.lta.org.uk/workforce-venues/coach-teach/ Tennis court bookings In line with many other London boroughs, we will be moving tennis court bookings to the LTA’s ClubSpark platform and SmartAccess system. From this point GLL/Better will cease to be involved in tennis bookings and all will be undertaken online via the ClubSpark website/app. We anticipate the move happening in September 2021 and more information will be available on our website when we have a confirmed launch date. More information on the Clubspark booking platform can be found at the following link- To find out more about where you can get on court in Lambeth, check out: https://www.lta.org.uk/play-compete/get-on-court/ https://www.better.org.uk/leisure-centre/london/lambeth/lambethparks/lambeth-parks-sports-facilities |
